China's debut in the Rugby Sevens was not of the dream variety - it was more of a nightmare.
The mainlanders were hammered 69-0 by Samoa on the opening day of the tournament watched by an estimated 12,000 fans.
China, a newcomer to the game itself, was on the receiving end of some uncompromising rugby from the Samoans to concede 11 tries in the highest score of the day.
'It was expected. We are here to learn and gain from the experience,' said Chinese manager Li Gaochao, secretary-general of the Chinese Rugby Football Association.
Coach Zheng Hongjun added: 'Things should be better in the Saturday round.'
