Senile attacker sent to Siu Lam

A senile 80-year-old who stabbed and wounded a friend was sent to a psychiatric hospital yesterday.

Mr Justice Michael Wong Kin-chow said the best thing for society and for Ngai Chun-on was for him to be sent to Siu Lam psychiatric centre.

In the Court of First Instance yesterday, Ngai admitted stabbing neighbour Hui Chi-sum on June 4 last year after an argument that flared when he used a dirty spoon to eat out of Mr Hui's bowl.

Last month, a jury ruled that Ngai was too senile to stand trial.

However, the court accepted his plea yesterday.
