Five of Europe's largest law firms have banded together to form what they claim will be Europe's largest full-service global legal practice called Linklaters & Alliance.
The new company will comprise members of the Alliance of European lawyers - De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae from Belgium, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek from the Netherlands, Lagerlof & Leman from Sweden and Oppenhoff & Radler from Germany - and Britain-based Linklaters & Paines which has a Hong Kong office.
The move brings together Linklaters & Paines' practices in London, Paris, Moscow, New York and the Asia-Pacific, with the four Continental firms' practices and their existing joint offices in Brussels, London, New York, Prague and Warsaw.
The new firm will have more than 1,900 lawyers in 28 offices.
'The integration of European markets, the dramatic growth in cross-border European mergers and acquisitions and capital raising and the imminence of an single currency are creating a clear call for multi-jurisdictional legal advice,' a senior partner at Linklaters & Paines said.
