FCC man faces vote on future

Members of the Foreign Correspondents' Club are split over a special meeting today which could end the term of manager Robert Sanders.

The 1,650-member club had been 'suffering a bit, like all clubs' and one solution was to allow Mr Sanders' contract to expire and hire someone cheaper, a member said.

Current and former board members said Mr Sanders, believed to be paid more than $1 million a year, had been managing the club well.

FCC president Diane Stormont refused to reveal Mr Sanders' salary, but said the 17-member board had to discuss whether to renew his contract before it ended in December.

'This is up to the board and the board will make a decision on Friday,' she said.

Mr Sanders, formerly a partner of the Casa Mexicana restaurant and the Spaghetti House chain, declined to comment.
