The five virtues that help build a better society

The five virtues - morality, intelligence, physique, unity and artistry - have long been motives for building good physical and mental health, opening people's intellectual horizons and giving full play to their physical strength.

Moreover, when people compete with and help others in group activities, they can strengthen contacts and communication among themselves and help build a harmonious society and foster the development of civilisation.

Today, most advanced countries demonstrate a vigorous development of sports. Sports are no longer confined to the pursuit of medals, nor do they have any implication of self-esteem or group image.

Internally, these activities serve as a momentum to enhance the internal unity of corporations and strengthen the sense of belonging.

Externally, sports activities prove a most cost- effective tool in fostering public relations.

Sporting interflow has become one of the most effectual means of international communication.

The Corporate Games seeks to encourage the working population to make good use of their spare time by taking part in recreational and sports activities to establish good health.

More importantly, we endeavour to foster staff co- operation, to promote team spirit, and to strengthen the sense of belonging to their respective corporations.

At the happy conclusion of the Corporate Games 1998, I would like to congratulate the award-winning corporations and extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participating corporations, athletes, co-organisers and sponsors for their support.

In addition, it is my wish that all corporations, as well as their staff, continue with, and further promote, the spirit of this event.
