Family held in stand-off
A former Correctional Services Department officer held his wife, two children and parents-in-law captive in his Sha Tin flat for two hours in a stand-off with police and firemen yesterday.
Police said the man's family locked themselves in a bedroom and threw a note out of a window from their second-floor flat at City One Sha Tin to seek help.
Police and firemen were called to the unit at about 9.30am when the man's 70-year-old father who had been refused entry found the note.
When the 38-year-old man went to the kitchen to arm himself with knives, his 33-year-old wife, two-year-old son, seven-year-old daughter and his parents-in-law locked themselves in one of the bedrooms.
After two hours' negotiation, the man opened the door. Police said no arrest was made.
