Krajicek joins all-star lineup

Former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek has been added to a star-studded lineup for the April 3-11 Salem Open, ensuring the strongest field in the tournament as it celebrates its 10th anniversary.

World number nine Krajicek will join French number one Cedric Pioline and dual Australian Open doubles champion Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden as the latest additions to the tournament that already includes German legend Boris Becker, American Michael Chang and two-time US Open champion Pat Rafter of Australia.

Krajicek made a winning debut in the SAR in 1991 when he captured the Salem Open crown for his first ATP Tour title.

The 1.94-metre Dutchman, who last appeared in Hong Kong three years ago when he reached the quarter-finals of the Salem Open, said he was looking forward to returning to the tournament.

'Hong Kong is a very special place for me as it is where I won my first ATP tournament back in 1991,' said Krajicek. 'I have been playing well over the last year and even though this year's Salem Open has an exceptionally strong field, I believe I can be successful there once again.' Swedish sensation Bjorkman competed in Hong Kong in 1994 and 1995, when he reached the Salem Open final.

This year, he has high hopes of going one better.

'I have had a good run in Hong Kong before. I feel strong at the moment and I know my potential,' he said.

'Hopefully, I will win a few matches going into the tournament to have the confidence of playing well in Hong Kong,' added Bjorkman, who recently won his second Australian Open doubles title with partner Rafter.

Pioline will make his debut here as a two-time Grand Slam runner-up. He was a finalist at Wimbledon (1997) and at the US Open (1993).
