We were ignored at question time: Liberals

Euphoria turned to dismay for Liberal Party lawmakers who were unable to question officials at a special House Committee meeting yesterday.

Party chairman James Tien Pei-chun was angry that the 2.5-hour meeting was dominated by questions and follow-ups from the Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong.

Only one of Mr Tien's colleagues, tourism sector representative Howard Young, managed to ask a question. Mr Tien said he would raise the matter at the House Committee meeting next week, urging members to review current practices.

He suggested the committee consider following the practice adopted during the Chief Executive's question time by asking members from different political parties and independents to speak in turn.

After Mr Tien's complaint, it was decided that an extra meeting would be held tomorrow to enable members to ask all their questions.
