Cheated by Stanley shopowner

MY husband and I are Americans living in Guangzhou.

We frequently enjoy being in Hongkong and never tire of the beautiful skyline from the ferry, exploring busy streets, and riding the bus to Stanley Market, understanding that Stanley is geared to the multitudes of tourist.

During a recent trip I found what I thought was an old teapot and tea container. They were beside other dusty items and looked old and I was assured by the proprietor that each was, in fact, about 30 years old.

Two weeks later, my husband accompanied me to Hongkong to look at them. Again we were assured that they were not antique, but were about 30 years old. We purchased four pieces. While browsing through several other shops, we found dozens of the same, obviously new, on the shelves. I am disappointed we were deceived. We would have purchased them anyway.

I apologise for being naive. Honesty did not prevail. That shop lost one customer, whether or not it makes any difference (to him) and my love affair with Stanley is certainly tarnished.
