I refer to the letter from Dennis Ho Hung-chi headlined, 'Give bus details in English too' (South China Morning Post, January 21).
KCR Light Rail currently operates 11 bus routes for residents living in a number of areas in the Northwest New Territories. Route number and destination in Chinese and English are displayed on the front of each operating bus.
The Light Rail bus service has a daily patronage of about 40,000. As the vast majority of our passengers are Chinese speaking, route information at some of the bus stops is provided in Chinese only. This arrangement has been in place since the introduction of the Light Rail bus service in 1987 and we have not received any complaint until now.
We have taken note of Mr Ho's views and will endeavour to provide bilingual route information in bus stops wherever it is practicable to do so.
