Last week it was reported in the Chinese press that a stray dog and her pups had been captured by Agriculture and Fisheries staff. The mother had attacked people in Ah Kung Ngam, because she feared for her puppies.
She was displaying noble, motherly instincts by trying to protect her young. We should not condemn her for her bravery, nor should we separate her from her pups.
It is really time that Hong Kong people were taught to respect humans and animals.
I hope that the Agriculture and Fisheries Department will spare this canine family, rather than putting them down, nurse the mother dog back to health and help her to restore her trust in people.
Hopefully, someone will be able to offer these dogs a loving home. I hope this is a story which will have a happy ending.
