MR ALEXANDER Arena, the guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony of Pacific Telecom 1308 Personalised Secretarial Paging Services, is Telecommunications Consultant to the Government of Hongkong and director-general (designate) of the soon-to-be-establishedtelecommunications regulatory body, Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA).
Prior to his appointment by the Hongkong Government, Mr Arena was an inaugural member of Australian regulatory body Austel, serving in that capacity from October 1989 until February 1993.
Mr Arena has been involved in high technology and infrastructure industries and public administration throughout his career.
Mr Arena holds degrees as a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Business Administration from Melbourne University.
He has had extensive experience in public policy formulation and implementation in areas such as reforms to commercialise government business enterprises and liberalisation in the aviation, telecommunications and postal industries.
