I refer to the letter by Lam Fai for the Commissioner of Correctional Services ('Standard rate', South China Morning Post, August 19). Although the charge for photocopying as stated in the letter is $1.50 after the first 20 photocopies ($6.50 per copy for the first 20 copies), it is still higher than those charged by most photocopy centres.
I have been to the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau to refer to some journals. When I requested photocopies I was informed that the rate was $6.50 per copy, but was not told of the lesser rate after the first 20 copies. I don't understand why government departments where journals cannot be borrowed should charge so much for photocopies. The Government should provide similar rates to those in the shops.
