Death threat punished

An inmate who threatened the Chief Justice with death in a note demanding the right to appeal against his conviction and jail term, is to stay behind bars for a further 18 months, Western Court ruled. Chun Chung-yan, 22, wrote to Chief Justice Andrew Li Kwok-nang from Stanley Prison, saying he would kill him and his family if his demand was not met. The mainland farmer, serving 18 months for offences not revealed in court yesterday, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal intimidation and one of obstructing police.
