Encouraging sight

When I have a piece of rubbish and there is a refuse bin in sight, I will walk over to it.

Otherwise I stick the rubbish in my pocket or canvas bag.

I used to wonder if I was the only person in Hong Kong who did this. The answer is no.

On January 5, I saw a very young schoolgirl walk to a rubbish bin, throw in her wrapper and walk away in the direction from which she had come. In other words, she made a special trip to the bin instead of dropping her rubbish on the ground.

Such a simple thing, but it made me happy.

Maybe Lap Sap Chung is working. Or maybe the children are simply wiser than the adults.

Can we make Hong Kong as clean as it should be?

I don't know. But it won't be hard to make Hong Kong cleaner than any American city I've ever lived in.
