San San confident

Lee Lai-shan is hoping to end her dazzling career on a high note and she means business. After capturing two European regatta titles in the past month, she now targets a clean sweep of this year's major titles including August's European Championship and World Championship, and October's All China Games.

'It's been a long time since I won two major European regattas in a row. I have been in great form. Looking at the way I'm sailing and the present form of other windsurfers, I'm quite confident of winning the European Championship in Marseille and the World Championship in Athens as well,' said San San yesterday when she brought home the trophies she won at the SPA Regatta in Holland and the Kiel Week Regatta in Germany.

The 1996 Atlanta Olympic champion and two-time world champion confirmed last year she was almost certain to retire after she bids to complete a collection of titles at the All China Games in Shenwei, Guangdong.

A European and World titles double is clearly a tough act, but San San already did it once in 1993. San San also captured another European title in Greece in 1994 and won her second world title in Perth in 1997.

The 31-year-old stressed that her mainland rivals - who have not seen action in Europe so far - were the ones to be reckoned with in the upcoming events, in particular the All China Games.

'I've improved more on my ability to race under light to medium winds but I know strong winds will be prevalent in Shenwei. Although I'm in good shape, I shouldn't be too complacent. I haven't seen any of the Chinese girls in Europe, so I have no idea about how strong they are at the moment.'
