KING AND QUEEN: David Palmer and Leilani Joyce savour the moment after convincing victories in the Hong Kong Open men's and women's finals.
Australian Palmer ended the fairytale run of Frenchman Thierry Lincou with a 15-13, 15-6, 15-9 success that carried him to the top of the world rankings. 'I would like to stay as number one for as long as I can,' said the new champions.
New Zealander Joyce, already the women's world number one, overcame Australian Carol Owens 9-7, 9-6, 9-0. 'It will be a wonderful feeling to leave Hong Kong as the champion,' said Joyce after winning her first major title of the year.
