Over the past six weeks I have been working with the Hong Kong Red Cross and International Red Cross organisations and the Algerian embassies in Kuala Lumpur and Paris to gather much-needed relief supplies (such as jackets, coats and blankets) to donate to the victims of the recent floods in Algeria.
Latest reports show that more than 600 people have been killed and approximately 30,000 have been left homeless.
However, with other significant world events making the headlines, often these seemingly 'smaller disasters' are overlooked.
With the extremely kind and constant help from Hong Kong Red Cross, the good news is we have arranged a total of 80 cartons ready to be sent. Unfortunately our appeal for free air cargo freight to Paris, France has been rejected by a local airline. 'Too busy at this time of year,' was the reply.
The whole project is now in jeopardy, as free air cargo freight has already been kindly offered by Air Algeria from Paris to Algiers.
