Boycott would make advertisers listen

I object most strongly to the bus companies' on-board television advertising.

It is definitely an infringement of the individual's right to choose and an unnecessary addition to the audio-visual pollution of the environment.

For some of us an alternative transport mode may be available but for most people it is not.

Although it is marginally more convenient and cheaper for me to commute from Central Pier to So Uk by bus, I now use the MTR. However, that is not enough. I am also taking other action.

The bus companies could not offer this unsolicited 'service' unless advertisers were willing to pay for it and advertising agencies were willing to produce it.

Advertisers obviously hope to increase their revenue from sales of various products and services. Advertising agencies do what they are paid to do by advertisers who can afford to pay them.

The answer is to deny both the advertiser and the agency any chance of increasing their revenue and actually reducing that which they previously enjoyed.

How? Simply boycott all the companies and all the products and services offered by any of them that use that medium to promote any one of their products.

I urge the Citizens Party to collect and publish the names of the companies that do advertise and the names of their advertising agencies so that all companies and individuals whether or not they use buses can join in a comprehensive boycott of both advertisers and ad agencies.

The boycott has worked elsewhere. It can work here.
