Walk to ferry piers now a risky business

Much is written in these columns regarding the lack of amenities on the Central reclamation waterfront and the poor access outlying island residents have to their ferry piers.

Nowadays, most of the footpaths and access points leading to the piers are barricaded by construction hoardings and metal railings, forcing commuters, who include small children and elderly, to walk into oncoming traffic.

At the same time as the waterfront is increasingly being boarded up and placed out of bounds to members of the public, the responsible government department has the audacity to waste our money placing enormous flowerpots full of plants in front of Pier 5 in an apparent effort to 'beautify' the area. Talk about a token gesture.

Needless to say, there is still nowhere for anyone to sit and enjoy the view. Why put plants which need maintaining and serve no purpose before benches which the public can actually use?

What the thousands of people who have to walk from the ferry piers to Central need is some basic planning and thought on the part of the relevant government department.

Perhaps someone could reply telling us how we could access any detailed plans for the area so we know how much longer we have to suffer.
