Those hard-working Las Vegas crime scene investigators are back solving mysteries on the graveyard shift.
It looks like a simple case of robbery gone wrong, but when Gil Grissom (William Petersen, above), Nick Stokes (George Eads) and Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) investigate a murder at a pottery store, they uncover evidence that tells two stories, seemingly unconnected. Fingerprints found at the scene belong to a young woman who was kidnapped 21 years ago and never found, and the murder victim is a thwarted robber, who may have been killed by the partner in crime he previously helped put away.
Meanwhile, Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) and Sarah Sidle (Jorja Fox) are called in when a woman is found incinerated in the easy chair where she fell asleep. Her husband claims she was alive when he went to bed, which seems to be true. The evidence appears to add up to one improbable cause: the victim apparently died from spontaneous human combustion, which Sarah is not only willing to believe, but intends to prove to a sceptical Warrick.
