A veteran composer who used to take Beauty and Healthy detoxifying tablets is suing their manufacturer for allegedly using his image to sell the product without his consent.
Joseph Koo Ka-fai, 69, is suing Long Far Herbal Medicine Manufacturing for unspecified damages. He is also seeking an injunction forcing the company to stop using his image.
Mr Koo, a consumer of the product until last October, alleges defamation to his character and status as a composer and says Long Far's alleged breach suggested he is 'willing to sell his own personal image', according to the writ.
Last October, Long Far asked Koo to share his experience of the tablets, which he agreed to do 'solely and exclusively' for the purpose of sharing with consumers of the product and for publishing in a booklet.
Long Far is said to have used the information between November and March on a signboard in Shun Ying Street, Hunghom, with a picture of Koo, as well as in magazine and TV advertisements, again with his picture.
The writ - filed in the High Court on Wednesday and made public yesterday - says Koo's reputation has been seriously injured and his feelings hurt.
