TV opens university doors

The incoming vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, geneticist Tsui Lap-chee, will spell out his vision for the university in an exclusive TV interview in the first episode of a Radio Television Hong Kong series on higher education next week.

The weekly series, entitled The Idea of a University, will also feature interviews with other heads of universities and tertiary institutions including Shue Yan College, Chu Hai College and the Caritas Francis Hsu College.

The history, characteristics and mission of each institution will be covered in programmes aimed at familiarising the public with the higher education sector.

Most people felt distant from and knew little about our universities, said the Director of Broadcasting Chu Pui-hing as the series was launched this week.

'It is important for people to be concerned about higher education, however. The government has invested much money on the sector and the number of people going for it is increasing,' he said.

The half-hour programme will air on TVB Jade from July 21.
