Building on ambition

I refer to Choith Ramchandani's letter 'Will ugly building threaten ambitious redevelopment' (Sunday Morning Post, September 1). The Hanoi Road site in Tsim Sha Tsui was designated as a Comprehensive Development Area by the Town Planning Board in the 1970s. In 1997, the Land Development Corporation took up the redevelopment project. The building mentioned by Mr Ramchandani (15-19 Carnarvon Road, which is at the border of the site) did not form part of the project site. It should be noted, however, that the building was, and still is, in a fair condition.

The redevelopment project has now reached an advanced stage and therefore any major planning change must be considered very carefully.
