Shing out for Hobie honours

Hong Kong: Former Yachtsman of the Year Tong Shing will spearhead the Hong Kong challenge at the eighth Hard Rock Cat Hobie Asian Classic which gets under way in Cheung Chau today. Tong, the top sailor in Hong Kong back in 1992, and light-wind specialist Lee Dockstader, the 1997 winner of this event, are the leading local candidates who will face a tough challenge from a strong overseas field in what is one of the biggest events in the Asian catamaran-racing calendar. Hot favourites for the event include Briton Mike Scantlebury, a veteran of six previous Hobie 16 World Championship events, as well as reigning Philippine champion Luigi Manzi. A record entry of over 40 beach catamarans will take part in the nine-race series which ends on Sunday.
