Why the Kyoto Protocol is a triumph of fear over fact

While no one is opposed to clean air, the Kyoto Protocol is a monster of its political masters.

Since this document came out, more than 17,000 scientists have signed a petition stating that any temperature fluctuations are not man-made and any increases in carbon dioxide can only be beneficial to plant life. Other independent research increasingly shows a strong correlation between temperature fluctuations and sunspot activity over the past 500 years.

Environmentalist claims - that it is now hotter than ever, that the ocean levels are rising or that the polar caps are all in danger of melting - appear contrary to fact. Research shows water levels around Tuvalu, one alleged environmentalist hotspot, have been consistent over the past 25 years, polar ice caps have recently gotten thicker not thinner and world temperatures were hotter not cooler 1,000 years ago. Twenty-five years ago, many environmentalists asserted that we were going through global cooling.

Unfortunately, environmentalists have been shamelessly placing fear above fact for far too long. One environmentalist is on record brazenly urging colleagues to offer up scary scenarios and for them to decide how to balance being truthful with being effective.

Today, one only has to look at the number of multi-national organisations capitulating to green doctrine to see how bad it has gotten.
