smoke drugged me, says 'Robbery victim'

A woman claims she was drugged when tobacco smoke was blown into her face before being robbed of $120,000 in Yuen Long yesterday, police say. The 54-year-old woman, surnamed Tsui, was reportedly accosted by three men at about 1pm near the entrance of Bank of China on Castle Peak Road. One of the men reportedly blew some smoke into her face which made her feel dizzy. She was then allegedly taken inside the bank where she withdrew $120,000. The victim claimed she lost consciousness after leaving the bank and woke up an hour later in a Fung Cheung Road park, minus the money. Detectives from Yuen Long police station were checking the closed-circuit TV footage from the bank.

former privacy chief to head nature organisation

The World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong has revealed that it has hired former privacy commissioner Stephen Lau Ka-man as its new chief executive officer. Mr Lau replaces Winnie Shek, who has resigned.

doctor and nurses robbed in raid on medical clinic

Two armed robbers raided a clinic in North Point and tied up the doctor and his two nurses before robbing them of their money and valuables last night. The robbers, armed with knives, began the raid when one of them posed as a patient. They tied up Dr Poon Woon-fai, 53, and his two nurses, aged 26 and 41, and robbed them of their money and valuables amounting to about $5,000. The robbers then took the doctor's two bankcards and forced him to disclose the PIN numbers. One of them went out to get cash from a nearby bank machine while his accomplice stood guard over the victims in the clinic. The amount withdrawn from the accounts was not known. No-one was injured in the raid. Police said no one has yet been arrested but the hunt for the robbers is continuing.

Blind man assaulted while eating breakfast

A blind man was assaulted in an attack by two men while having breakfast in a Shekkipmei restaurant. The 52-year-old victim was punched in the ground-floor restaurant in Pak Wan Street in Pak Tin Estate just after 7am. He suffered minor facial injures, but refused to go to hospital for medical treatment. The two attackers, who were in their 30s, fled on foot before policemen arrived.

There were 11 winning tickets of the first prize in last night's lottery draw, with each winning $908,250. The numbers were 1, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 27. The extra number was 21. Seventeen tickets each won the second prize of $19,200. The third prize was $9,600.
