Finding Elliot: A Remarkable Dinosaur Story
National Geographic, 9pm
The discovery of Australia's biggest ever dinosaur is told through the eyes of an Aussie sheep farmer who stumbled on a large and mysterious bone, and from the point of view of a band of dinosaur devotees who gave up their annual vacation and paid for a unique adventure to unearth it. In a first for Australia, heavy earth-moving equipment was used to burrow into the top two metres of black soil, where paleontologists believed they would find the rest of Elliot. What they found both delighted and bewildered them.
Great Artists: Vermeer
Art historian Tim Marlow explores the life and work of Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). Though he painted fewer than 40 works and died unknown outside his hometown of Delft in the Netherlands, today Vermeer is considered as great a talent as Rembrandt.
