Like, groovy baby

This time last year, everyone was whispering about the unbelievable Christmas pool party at the Island Shangri-La, at which two girls proceeded to get wasted and dived into the pool with precious little to preserve their modesty.

So this year the hotel big wigs decided to keep things under control by throwing the party on the 56th-floor garden patio, with a huge BBQ spread. But an Austin Powers theme made sure things were still groovy, leading the hotel to be rechristened the Shag-ri-La for the night. Yeah, baby.

When asked why the girls dove into the pool last year, general manager Franz Donhauser (check out the velvet suit) replied: 'Our pool is heated.'

The event was attended by many members of the press, some of whom managed to take home prizes courtesy of the hotel. These included two-night stays at sister hotels around the world.

The unlucky few had to satisfy themselves with prank gifts including dorky red wigs (one of which ended up with yours truly).
