Fans' helping hands help find leslie's palm print

It was a long and tedious effort, but fans of Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing have finally struck gold.

A spokesman for Red Mission, a global alliance of Cheung's fan clubs, says fans of gor gor (big brother), as he was affectionately known, started a global search for his handprint months ago.

'Gor Gor's fans around the world sent letters to places where his handprint could possibly be found,' he says.

A Japanese fan found his handprints tucked away on the wall of restaurant chain Planet Hollywood's headquarters in Orlando, Florida, about a week ago.

This means that fans of the Canto-pop legend have a new public place to commemorate their idol - much better than the curb outside the Mandarin Hotel, right?

An Avenue of Stars representative said meetings would be held to discuss if the handprint could be brought to Hong Kong.

The $40 million Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui has space for 73 stars - such as Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh - and many were at last night's opening gala. Celebrities included Jet Li, Raymond Chow, Tsui Hark and Sammo Hung Kam-po.

Fans of Leslie laid a sea of white flowers - the star's favourite - for all to see.
