The Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett, feature the ugliest covers ever published. Ignore the exaggerated fantasy look. This series was written by a man who poses in a funeral suit and cowboy hat for his cover pictures. It is utterly hilarious. I'm working my way through the entire series. If you really don't like fantasy, read the quirky ravings of a 30-something spinster in Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. Or read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. It's a cult favourite. Read it, if only to find out what the number 42 signifies...

I flipped through America's best-selling Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (I wasn't in the bathroom at the time, OK!) and found a few very interesting articles like Toilet Tech which reveals the secret to living a better life through toilet technology and The Origin of the Fork. The book is hilarious and is packed with strange yet amazing stories and quotes. A few of my favourite quotes include: 'When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane and driving against traffic' and 'If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments'. So, if you were looking for some entertainment, you now know where to find it!

Dangerous Angels is a collection of twisted fairytales. In it, a girl called Weetzie finds a magic genie who grants wishes. The story continues into a series of unpredictable surprises with a whirlpool of emotions. I admire how it deals with serious issues, but still retains its wide-eyed innocence. Although it's not suitable for young children because of its explicit content, it allows teens to leave the sometimes harsh world we live in and enter the wacky world Francesca Lia Block has created for us.
