Light show

Italian artist/designer Jacopo Foggini has made his Hong Kong debut at Sol y Luna/Lifestyle. While working for his family's plastics company at the beginning of the 1990s, Foggini came across the industrial material methacrylate, which is similar to glass but much lighter, and began to experiment with it. A decade later his 'creations of light', which he makes by heating the methacrylate to 200 degrees Celsius and modelling the resulting filaments into a maze of threads, have been exhibited in more than 30 galleries worldwide, including the Carrousel du Louvre and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and the Royal College of Art in London. Giant chandeliers also illuminate the stage at the Rendano Opera Theatre in Cosenza, Italy (left), but more popular for private use are Foggini's smaller sculptural chandeliers such as Lantern and Disk On Wall Millefili (below). The collection is available to order at Sol y Luna/Lifestyle (1617, Horizon Plaza, 2 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau, tel: 2814 0203; www.jacopofoggini.it).
