Last week there were several debutants that performed well, confirming the promise they had shown in trackwork, and none more so than Tony Cruz's Dreams Come True.
The talented galloper managed to win on debut, around the tight circuit of Happy Valley over 1,200 metres (Race 122) - a feat only the very capable horses can achieve.
Cruz has a batch of highly talented youngsters, some even displaying more potential than this fellow, but he fulfilled his promise in a stylish manner, suggesting he will only improve when stepping up in trip and that he should be better suited to the long straight at Sha Tin.
Third-placed Yellow Diamond did not look at home around the tight track and was off the bridle a long way out.
He stuck on valiantly all the way to the line and is clearly looking for a step up in trip.
He also looked in need of the outing, so there is more improvement to come from him than most.
Fair Win also impressed in his debut when third to Golden Stride over 1,200 metres (Race 123) at Happy Valley.
He took some time to get balanced, but hit the line purposefully and looks good enough to win in the short term.
Pleasant Journey competed for the sixth time on Saturday, and put in his best performance to date when fourth to Able Mars over 1,400 metres (Race 130) at Sha Tin. The lightly raced galloper has taken time to mature but showed enough potential to suggest he can win more than one race this term, particularly when he steps up to a mile or even further.
In the same event, third-placed Zhi You Spirit for the first time competed over a distance other than 1,000 metres and displayed marked improvement.
The breaks didn't go the way of debutant Fortune Warrior, who caught the eye when flashing home to run fifth behind Trophy over 1,200 metres (Race 131).
It was a sound effort and there is no doubt he will prove more effective over further. Bullish General (fourth) made the running and stuck on well to just miss the frame.
There was a lot to like about the way Just A Martian hit the line over 1,400 metres (Race 135) after being blocked for a clear run on a couple of occasions. He has fallen to a competitive mark and should be winning when he steps out over further.
In the same event, Dongguan Victory covered plenty of extra ground and ran well to finish third.
