Blast from the past

Nostalgic for times gone by? Or simply looking for something different to plaster on your walls? Maharam has re-issued three of Alexander Girard's wall-cover patterns from the 1950s.

As director of design for Herman Miller's textile division, Girard created more than 300 two-dimensional patterns using geometric forms and subtle colour combinations to create texture and movement. The three patterns - Alphabet, Circles and Roman Stripe - were originally on silk-screened paper, but have metamorphosed onto a material made of cellulose and polyester. Available from FabricNation, room 1205, New Victory House, 93 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan (tel: 2180 8772).
