GEC Plessey Semiconductors (GPS) has announced an agreement to expand current working arrangements with Apple for its Newton technology.

GPS is a major supplier of integrated circuits (ICs) for the Apple MessagePad, and has secured a worldwide licence to manufacture and sell the ARM range of processors, including the one which powers the Newton.

The new agreement between GPS and Apple will extend co-operation as GPS looks to utilise the chipset and Newton technology in several potential applications.

GPS intends to make wireless components for Newton, and may possibly license Newton technology from Apple dor its PDAs and portable computing and communications products.
