We also recommend the daily news report (7.30-8pm, on both channels) which has English subtitles, helping you follow the news script and improve your pronunciation, listening skills and spelling.
April 29: Wild Wild West (TVB Pearl, 9.30-11.45pm)
Special government agents James West (Will Smith) and Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) are sent to track down a mad genius, Dr Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh). Loveless is plotting to assassinate the president of the United States with the help of a huge, weapons-transport vehicle called The Tarantula. West and Gordon begin as competitors but soon pool their talents to become a team of operatives who trust each other - most of the time.
April 30: The One (TVB Pearl, 9.55-11.45pm)
Alternate life waves exist in parallel universes. This is a fact everyone at the Multiverse Bureau of Investigation (MBI) upholds, except former MBI investigator Gabriel Yulaw (Jet Li). Yulaw has traversed 123 universes hunting down and destroying his alternate life forces, eradicating 'himself' in each universe in an attempt to achieve his ultimate goal - to be the only one. The other Gabriel Yulaw, known as Gabe (also Li), is the last alternate life wave standing between Yulaw and his objective. A great husband with a loyal, loving wife, the veteran lawman's life becomes complicated when he finds that saving himself isn't as simple as killing his evil twin.
May 1: Species (ATV World, 9-11.05pm)
In 1993 the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Project receives a transmission detailing
an alien DNA structure, along with instructions on how to splice it to human DNA.
The result of the experiment is Sil, a sensual but deadly creature who can change from a beautiful woman to an armour-plated killing machine in the blink of an eye.
When she escapes from observation, scientist Xavier
Fitch (Oscar winner Ben Kingsley) dispatches a government assassin (Alfred Molina) to find her.
Tracing their prey to Los Angeles, the crew discovers her horrific plan: to mate with unsuspecting men and produce offspring that could destroy mankind.
As her deadly biological clock ticks, Fitch and his team are hurried into a pulse-pounding chase in which the fate of humanity itself hangs in the balance.
May 2: Journeys from the Centre of the Earth: Architecture (TVB Pearl, 9.30-10.35pm)
The architecture of ancient civilisations was largely dictated by the types of rocks that were accessible to their builders. Host Iain Stewart reveals how geology influenced the Egyptians to build pyramids, the Greeks to build squares and the Romans to build perfect arches. It all comes down to how the rocks were formed millions of years ago.
May 3: The World of Nature: Untamed Earth - The Mother of All Instincts (ATV World, 9-10pm)
Untamed Earth portrays a unique survival trait - maternal instinct - holding us spellbound from start to finish. Chang the elephant, Yam the kangaroo, Xada the sloth, Kumpa the tiger . . . Only their mothers are there to protect and prepare them for the world's dangers. Maternal devotion alone stands between them and death. Untamed Earth takes us on a journey round the world to witness the magical bond between mother and child.
May 4: The Demonic Ape (TVB Pearl, 9.30-10.35pm)
Can chimps commit murder? Chimps are the closest creatures to humans.
Scientists have shown that apes are capable of communicating with people and have advanced social behaviour and other qualities which were thought to be beyond the capabilities of any animal on this planet.
So if a chimp kills a child, is it pure animal instinct? Was he actually committing murder? And if it wasn't murder, what was it? Photo: BBC
May 5: Extreme Engineering: Holland's Barriers to the Sea (TVB Pearl, 9.35-10.35pm)
Most of Holland is below sea level, a drainage basin for three major rivers. In the Middle Ages, people started building dykes to keep the sea out and today there are about 1,600km of them.
The Delta Works and Measlandkering are one of engineering wonders of the world - a series of massive, computer-controlled sea barriers and dams and a gigantic sea surge barrier powered by water and windmills.
