Pet projects

Unlike other developed cities, Hong Kong's pet shops are allowed to display and sell cute puppies and kittens to attract the impulse buyer. Many of these animals arrive from the mainland already infected with deadly viruses such as parvo. Pet shops often sell 'fat' animals that, weeks after they are sold, give birth to a litter. Most foster organisations have their animals checked and de-sexed by qualified vets. Adopting one of these animals could cost nothing or the sum of its veterinary bills - a small price to pay for saving a life.
