DESPITE a lack of concluded sales last week, healthy interest remains in the market for reasonable quality, second-hand vessels, according to Wallem Shipbroking (Hong Kong).
Modern Capesize and Panamax ships are attracting plenty of inspections despite the uncertain freight market, the brokerage said.
For example, 11 buyers are due to inspect the Bulktrieste, about 69,201 deadweight tonnes (dwt), built in 1984, in Rotterdam this week.
In Baltimore recently, seven buyers went on board to inspect the Zen Noh Maru No 1 (64,379 dwt) built in 1984, and six buyers went to see the Sabina (145,177 dwt) built in 1982.
In the market for tankers and combination carriers, the product tanker Pride (36,834 dwt), built in 1980 by Kasado, has been sold to Tanker Pacific of Singapore for US$9.8 million.
Iolcos of Piraeus has bought the ore-oiler Blue Star (93,070 dwt), built in 1977 by Taiwan SB, for $4.6 million, and the ore-bulk carrier Bulk Star (145,057 dwt), built by Sumitomo in 1972, for $5.25 million.
The fleet stock of the company Petrolera Transoceania has been sold to Glenpoint Enterprises of Chile for $25.17 million at public auction in Peru.
The fleet consists of four 25,000 dwt clean petroleum product tankers built between 1976 and 1986 and one small liquid petroleum gas carrier, all on time-charter to Petroperu.
In the bulk carrier market, LASCO Shipping is believed to have bought the Japanese-controlled Bright Ocean (25,759 dwt), built by Imabari in 1985, for $12.4 million.
The Naftilos, and sister vessel Mandraki (both of 24,518 dwt), built by Kurushima in 1976, are reported to be tied up to Greek buyers for just over $10 million for the pair.
Thai buyers have bought the Norwegian-controlled bulker Slora (17,556 dwt), built by Tsuneishi in 1978, for $3.75 million, as is.
Georgios L (16,522 dwt), built by Kochi Jyuko in 1977, has been sold to Greeks for $3.6 million.
