Seek help when you are alone and down

I would like to respond to the letter 'Man had no right to kill sick mum', which was published in the Young Post recently. I think the man who killed his mother had his own difficulties. In my view, he had two heavy burdens.

First, he had to pay a lot of money to hire a nurse to look after his mum. Secondly, he did not want to see his mum suffer.

The incident showed that we often overlook the people who have to take care of the ill and the elderly. I think programmes and talks should be held to teach these people to relax because they are under great strain.

Thanks for your letter, Gian. This is a story which has touched a lot of people. Of course, the man must have been under a lot of pressure - both emotionally as well as financially.

When I first heard this tragic story, I thought that this man must have felt alone with his burden. This is very sad, especially because he need not have been alone. There are always people who are willing to listen and help shoulder a hardship - either in your own community or through a help group, like the Samaritans.

No one need ever be alone, but they have to have the courage to ask and seek for help.
