A security supervisor at Disney who demanded two hygiene officers investigating a food poisoning report remove their badges has left his job, according to a source.

The supervisor was asked to resign or face dismissal for the incident, the source said.

He said the supervisor was previously a chief inspector with the Hong Kong Police Force, who  left the force when his contract expired last year. The expatriate was among a group of local retired police officers recruited by the theme park for security.

The two health officers were investigating a food poisoning report on August 30 when the supervisor asked them to remove their caps and badges before entering the park. They agreed in the hope of quickly collecting food samples.

A Disney spokeswoman yesterday refused to comment on the supervisor's status, only repeating that the incident was inappropriate and the company had  apologised.

'We would not confirm any anonymous source of information,' she said, adding that Disney had already made assurances that similar incidents would not occur.

A spokeswoman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said it was not aware of any disciplinary action taken by Disney. She said the department was still seeking legal advice from the Department of Justice on possible action against the company.

Department chief Gregory Leung Wing-lup said earlier that officials had written to Disney expressing grave concerns about the incident and were considering whether it  could be prosecuted for violating the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance.

Top officials said no individual or company  could override the city's laws.
