Attack arrests

Guangzhou police have arrested eight people suspected of seriously injuring a homeowner who organised protests against an estate property manager.

Li Gang, a member of an informal homeowners' committee at the Huanan New City estate, was battered so badly by five men in the assault a month ago that he required surgery to remove his spleen.

Mr Li claimed the attackers had been hired by the estate's management because he had led hundreds of homeowners in a protest against the company's decision to disband its shuttle bus service.

Police released names of the eight people arrested, but offered no further details. They said they were looking for another three people thought to be involved.
