Fifth jewellery company executive faces charges

A fifth senior executive of publicly listed Tse Sui Luen Jewellery was charged by the ICAC yesterday. TSL business promotion general manager Wong Ting-fong, 50, who is on bail, faces 20 charges - five of conspiracy to offer advantages, seven of conspiracy to defraud, two of conspiracy to steal and six alternative charges. The offences allegedly took place between August 1996 and April last year. He will appear in Eastern Court today.

The company's former chairman, Tse Sui-luen, his son and current chairman Tommy Tse Tat-fung, finance director Chung Yuen-ling and the deputy chairman and chief executive officer Peter Gerardus Van Weerdenburg were earlier charged with offences relating to alleged bribery, tax fraud and embezzlement.

Decision on wife of ex-judge delayed

A decision on a defence application to halt the prosecution of ex-judge Miles Henry Jackson-Lipkin's wife over social welfare fraud charges was adjourned yesterday to Thursday. Andrew Bullet, for Lucille Yun Shim Jackson-Lipkin, 80, made the application before Kowloon City Court Chief Magistrate Patrick Li Hon-leung on the grounds that his client was unable to instruct him as she had been diagnosed with moderate dementia by a defence psychiatrist.
