What is it?
A technique that's said to activate energy centres along your spine. Each session takes 20-30 minutes. After every other session, there's a 15-minute breathing exercise, which is intended to enhance the healing. NSA is based on the work of Donald Epstein, author of Healing Myths and Healing Magic. On his website, he says NSA can help the brain develop new ways to experience the world, adapt to stress, and dissipate tension from the spine and nerves. He also says it can connect with your body's natural rhythms, helping you to enjoy greater wellbeing, and better posture and brain function.
What's it like?
Chiropractor Christine Ridal (right) activates your energy centres using a light touch, starting at the base of your spine. The idea is that this so-called kundalini energy travels up the spine and releases blockages, the causes of which could be physical, emotional, mental or chemical source. Breath does seem to flow more easily and expand into different regions of your spine and chest. The breathing exercise, called somato respiratory integration, is intended to help you connect with your breath and your body.
How did you feel afterwards?
I felt dizzy when I got up after my first session - apparently because the energy was flowing back to my head. I usually feel taller afterwards. Although I've noticed a difference on a physical and emotional level after a few sessions, the treatment probably isn't for those wanting a quick fix.
What's good about it?
The self-healing therapy is said to help people to rid themselves of aches and tension, as well as emotional issues such as fear and stress. Your body can learn how to self-correct and free blocked energy. Even after taking a break from regular treatments, I felt I kept everything I'd achieved in previous sessions. I do the breathing exercise at home - it's a great way to start off the day.
