Prosecutors have revived the case against a researcher for The New York Times after charges against him were dropped two months ago, his lawyer said yesterday.
Mo Shaoping said he had been informed that prosecutors had charged Zhao Yan and handed the case to the courts.
'We have not seen the new indictment paper yet,' said Mr Mo, adding that he would learn of the charge when he received the document in the next few days.
According to the law, authorities could not indict Zhao on the same charges as those previously withdrawn unless they found new evidence or facts, the lawyer said.
Zhao, 42, was detained in September 2004 after The New York Times reported that former president Jiang Zemin planned to step down from the Central Military Commission.
