Yung wants Fukien to press on

Fukien captain Yung Kam-wah has called on his teammates to maintain their momentum when they take on Winling in game three of the domestic A1 Division league final play-offs at MacPherson Stadium, Mongkok today.

'If we win tomorrow, we will be in a good position to win the series,' Yung said. 'So, it is important that we return with a victory.'

Fukien lost the opening game in the best-of-five series by three points to Winling but came back strongly with a convincing 68-57 win in game two to level the series.

'We were the better side in the last game, and if we can keep playing at that level, we certainly have a better chance to make it two in a row,' said the three-point specialist, who scored a game-high 18 points last time out.

Fukien, one of the long established teams in the league, last won the title in 2003, 12 years after they captured it in 1991. They won the Shield title in March and are well on course for a double.

Though Fukien won by a significant margin in the last game, they are still plagued by injury problems as towering centre Sung Fong is still nursing an ankle problem, while forward Li Wai-lun has yet to recover from the flu.

Winling, led by guard Poon Chi-ho, are still a quality side as proved by finishing first in the regular season when they defeated Fukien 79-60. 'We still have some injury problems while Winling players work very well as a team,' said Yung.
