Club to take on board banquet sales executive

If you are a hotel or catering sales professional who wants to sail into a new area, this vacancy with a long-established yacht club may be just the opportunity you are looking for.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) is seeking a banquet sales executive to be responsible for a range of duties.

The ability to multitask and to be organised will be vital as the recruit will need to identify and solicit banquet business from club members or their referred guests to maximise function room usage.

Excellent people skills are required to ensure that events run smoothly as they involve working with clients as well as the banquet service and kitchen staff.

The role also involves paying attention to details such as checking the room before guests arrive and conducting follow-up research to judge the success of a function.

'The RHKYC was established in 1894 and is one of the most prestigious clubs in Hong Kong,' said Shirley Tam, banquet manager.

'To work here is different from, say, a hotel as you are dealing with members, which provides a sense of familiarity and being at home.'

Applicants should have worked in a similar capacity for the past three years and should be fluent in English and Cantonese. Fluency in Putonghua is an advantage.

Training in a range of areas is provided, including wine-tasting, menu-tasting and communication skills.

'We are looking for someone who is pleasant, outgoing, service-orientated, proactive, decisive, hard working, with good communication and interpersonal skills,' Ms Tam said.

She said the job was never boring as it presented different and exciting challenges every day.
