China's state-run news agency yesterday said Chinese authorities have sent a team of six people to escort the body of a PLA officer killed in Lebanon back to China.
Xinhua reported the officer's wife, Li Lingling , was travelling with the team.
UN observer Du Zhaoyu was the first Chinese national to be killed in the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Du was one of 180 Chinese officers, soldiers and observers working as part of the UN peacekeeping mission.
News of Du's death was carried on the front pages of several national dailies and drew more than 64,000 responses in chat rooms of Sina.com. Most expressed anger over his death.
