Court rejects case by Anita Mui's brother

A High Court judge has thrown out a multiparty HK$3 billion lawsuit lodged by the elder brother of late Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong against her trustees, close friends and the hospital where she died, over her medical treatment and the handling of her estate. Registrar Christopher Chan Cheuk ruled that Peter Mui Kai-ming had no right to make such claims and his mother had already lodged another claim over the estate in the High Court.

Thumbs up to Public housing management

Public housing households' satisfaction with estate management has continued to grow, a Housing Department survey shows. Of the 3,000 households polled this year, quality of security services and cleanliness and hygiene of common areas had the highest satisfaction rates - 71.6 per cent and 68.6 per cent (69.2 per cent and 64.3 per cent last year). The survey also found 97 per cent were aware of the Marking Scheme for Tenancy Enforcement and 83 per cent thought the scheme could help improve estates' hygiene.

Tutor charged with rape of retarded girl

A tutor at a home for the mentally handicapped at Tsing Yi appeared in Tsuen Wan Court charged with raping one of the female residents in a staff toilet. Chow Fu-wah, 35, entered no plea. The prosecution alleged Chow assaulted the girl, whose intelligence is equivalent to that of a seven-year-old, at the Fu Hong Society home in Cheung Hong Estate on August 6. He was remanded in custody until September 22.

engine trouble forces cathay flight to return

A Hong Kong-bound Cathay Pacific flight with 310 passengers and 14 crew onboard was forced to return to Taipei about half an hour after takeoff because of engine trouble. No one was hurt and all passengers had been transferred to other Cathay flights to continue their journeys. Cathay said initial investigation revealed there was damage to one of the Airbus A330's engines.
