Lots of opportunities to improve your English

It is important to be able to speak English. No matter how clever you are, you won't get a good job if your English is poor.

Learning a language takes practice. Try to read an English newspaper every day and note down new words and useful expressions. After watching a movie or TV programme, write a review so that you can share your opinion with others.

You can also pick up English from your surroundings. Pay more attention to menus when you are ordering food, and read leaflets handed out when you are shopping with friends.

If you want to be successful, you must be determined.

DENISE CHEUNG

Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School Thanks for your letter, Denise, I'm happy to hear that you are so enthusiastic about English. You have offered some great, practical suggestions - and I totally agree with you, a daily newspaper is a great habit.

English is all around you in Hong Kong - from street signs to songs. By paying attention to new words, and using them when you can, your vocabulary will expand quickly.

The interactive Listening section in Young Post will return after the summer holidays. You can listen to the podcast on the Young Post website and then answer the listening questions in the paper on Friday. Look out for it beginning September 15.
