Hotelier Yenn Wong is super busy at the moment but she found time at the weekend to come back to Hong Kong. Of course, the reason made it worthwhile enough. The JIA Hotel owner was being recognised by the city's Junior Chamber with the prestigious Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year 2006. Designed to recognise the achievements and ideas of innovative entrepreneurs and their contribution to society, the award was decided by a panel of judges based on various criteria from management style and marketing strategy to unique features and public recognition.
The Singaporean native may consider Hong Kong something of a base now but the still twentysomething hospitality whizz is rarely in town these days.
Besides renovating on old colonial building in Singapore and turning it into a stylish restaurant, she is working on a JIA boutique hotel in Shanghai (due to open later this autumn) and another one in Krabi, Thailand.
